A well-known stranger walked through the countryside. An individual, alone, on a journey through nature, city, life. He sought peace and privacy. The silence that will surround him on the way inside him. He is approaching the place he had heard about in dreams and fairy tales. He always knew it was here. Does he go to the center, is he walking around in a circle? He clashes with his feelings and the world. He does no longer feel fear, does he let himself be guided by intuition, God? He finds peace. He does not perceive noise, he perceives nothing but himself, nature and his way. He continues humbly and begins to feel hope. He sees and remains in silent amazement. Is he still in nature? No, he has been in town all along. He sees himself. He became wise. He wanders in a circle, enters. He looks up and sees ..? A well-known stranger went through the countryside …
In the project, we explored the possibility of placing the chapel in an urban structure. We understand the classically conceived chapel as architecture settled in the landscape, which is often the destination of spiritual journeys and pilgrimages. We decided to take the concept of the chapel from the perspective of individuals of the 21st century, who are instead of the landscape surrounded by a city as wide as never before. Of course, for the purpose of seeking inner peace, there are many refuges in today's cities, we are now talking mainly about churches and various spiritual institutions. However, we understand these as self-contained structures. On the contrary, we feel that the chapel is an architecture open to all casual passers-by, influencing travelers who need it, and greatly influencing the nearest public space they co-create. Is it even possible to create an open chapel in the core of an urban structure that will not be self-centered, one of which we will become a part of, without having to enter it?
