The spider is a kind of symbol of fear, and here it is also its carrier. Not fear of the spider itself, but fear of humans, human interaction, touch and words. The human fingers and thumbs that form the links of his body capture this fear that affects me and many others in an age of virtual communication and increasingly infrequent touch. The object should thus serve as a kind of mediator of communication through touch. Fingerprints polish the bronze, changing its character in the same way that mutual touching changes us.
